SAM WADE

Born in Richmond, BC, Sam has been cycling since a young boy, although has remained active most of his life through running and the sports scene. He participated in many cross country and track and field meets up until high school completion. He also took part in various sports teams; tennis, swimming, basketball, and rugby. In grade 11, he was designated team captain of his highschool rugby team, and remained captain the following year as well. Also, for years, Sam has consistently participated in long distance runs, such as the Terry Fox Run, The Vancouver Sun Run, The Underwear Affair, and the Run in the Woods. In 2007, Sam initiated his own group known as "SACK- Simple Acts of Charitable Kindness", where the group participates in events each month to benefit the community in some aspect, including Book Drives, Clothing Drives, and blood donations. Sam is also involved in the Big Brothers Big Sisters In-school mentoring program. Sam is currently studying at the University of Victoria and is pursuing a career in Social Psychology. His innate drive to altruism will no doubt be a contributing motivational factor in this ride, but the sole inspiration for this journey is Sam's grandfather who is currently recovering from prostate cancer. Very eager and ambitious in exploring new ground on the bike, Sam hopes this journey will instill a passion in others to help one another and inspire many along the way.
